Innova’s Coverage Checker is a self-selection tool that allows you to see what OBD2 scanner features are available for your specific vehicle based on year, make, and model.

Before we dive into the details, it’s important to understand that not all features available on Innova OBD2 tools will be supported by your vehicle, especially if you own an older vehicle. This is true not just for Innova OBD2 scanners, but also for all OBD2 products in general.

Think of it like this.

A vehicle is made of multiple computers. Older vehicles made in the early 2000s have less computers because technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today. As a result, some vehicles simply don’t have the capability to support advanced features in the first place. As much as I love classic cars myself, it’s like trying to play a 4K HD-quality movie on a 1980s vintage television.

It’s also important to understand that there isn’t a single OBD2 scanner in the world that supports every single feature for every vehicle. It’s the reason why many mechanics use multiple OBD2 scanners from different brands.

Now, let’s dive in on how to use the Coverage Checker. It’s easy! Simply follow the steps below.

Step 1: Go To The Coverage Checker

Visit our Coverage Checker by clicking the button below. Once you do, you’ll arrive at a screen that looks similar to the image below.

Step 2: Select Your Vehicle Information

Here is where it gets really customizable. We offer this service to more than 100 different vehicle make and models combined.

Proceed to select your year, make, and model. As for the engine, feel free to select any. While selecting the correct engine size will give you a more accurate overview, it isn’t a huge factor.

Step 3: Select Your Tool

Great job so far. Now it’s time to select your Innova scanner. Because we sell over 20 scanners, it helps if you type down the model number.

Once you're done, press "Submit."

Let’s go through each tab and understand what they mean.

Find the perfect scanner in 1 minute

Diagnostics

In this tab, we tell you whether your selected tool reads & clears On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD2) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) trouble codes for your specific vehicle.

If you’re interested in reading and clearing check engine related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), seeing a green check mark near the “Engine” container means you are covered.

If you’re interested in Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) or Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) related DTCs, seeing a green check mark near those containers means you are covered.

If you’re interested in reading and clearing all OEM level DTCs such as air conditioning modules or audio systems…I’m sure you get the idea by now.

💡Make sure you see a screen like the above if you’d like to make sure your tool reads and clears all systems. If you see a “X” instead of a checkmark, that means your tool will not support the accompanying feature.

Services

In this tab, we tell you what resets, routines, self-tests, and calibrations are available based on tool and vehicle selection.

As you can see in the image above, there may be a few features (marked red) that your vehicle doesn’t support. For instance, although the Innova 5610 supports DPF reset, the vehicle I selected (2015 Toyota Camry) does not. As a result, you won’t be able to utilize this feature.

Any feature that isn’t highlighted in red is available for your vehicle. In the example above, you can reset your steering angle with the Innova 5610.

Additional Features

In this tab, we go through all the additional features that your tool supports based on vehicle selection. As you can see below, if you own a 2015 Toyota Camry, the Innova 5610 supports all features listed except for O2S Results.

The RepairSolutions2 App (RS2) section highlights the available features should you use the app. The RS2 comes as a complimentary repair app with the purchase of our scanners, but it is 100% optional to use.

Live Data

In this tab, we go through the available live data parameter IDs (PIDs) based on tool and vehicle selection.

Most entry-level tools only support OBD2 live data (Engine). However, in this case, all OEM live data (ABS, SRS, Transmission, TPMS) is available since we selected a tool that supports OEM live data.

Special Functions

In this tab, we go through the available dealership-level routines, self-tests, and calibrations based on tool and vehicle selection.

image (20).png__PID:a640505e-eb65-41c4-aa95-df682609ba00

Notice how there are 10 available features in this instance. This number varies depending on the selected vehicle’s year, make, and model. Some makes (like Jeep) support more than 50, while some support none. Again, it highly depends on whether the vehicle supports it.

Active Tests

In this tab, we go through the available active tests (bi-directional controls) based on tool and vehicle selection.

image (21).png__PID:3054ee3d-d0d9-44df-8959-7d24a49d8ad6

As you can see, a good number of bi-directional functions are supported in this case. But that may not be the case for your vehicle, which is why it’s crucial that you utilize this self-selection tool before making a purchase.

After all, who would want to waste money on a tool that doesn’t do what you need it to do?

Important Remarks

While we do our best to make the Coverage Checker as accurate as possible, there have been a few instances where the results were inaccurate. You could say that our Coverage Checker is 99% accurate, but there’s always a 1% margin error.

If you encounter any problems with the Coverage Checker, please contact us by phone or email and our R&D department will do its best to correct the issue.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You’ve now mastered our Coverage Checker tool. If you know anyone else struggling with Innova tool/vehicle compatibility, we encourage you to refer them to our Coverage Checker. With your help, you can help make the DIY community a more educated place.
