INNOVA OBD History
The history of On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) is a fascinating journey that highlights the evolution of automotive technology and its profound impact on vehicle maintenance and repair. The concept of OBD can be traced back to the late 1960s when Volkswagen introduced the first on-board computer system.
This early system was quite rudimentary, focusing mainly on monitoring engine functions. However, the real turning point came in the 1980s when the California Air Resources Board (CARB) mandated that all vehicles sold in California must be equipped with an OBD system to monitor emissions.
This regulation marked the beginning of standardized OBD systems across the automotive industry.
