Innova offers a bevy of devices ranging from simple scanners like the Innova 1000, which connects to your phone via Bluetooth, to the 5610 bi-directional scanner, but you probably know that by now.

It can make things a little confusing when you’re shopping for a device because there are so many options. What makes the 5610 more suitable for you versus something like the 5210, for example? The truth is that the advanced scanners can gather more information from your vehicle, like live system data, and also have additional functions. Some of those tools you might need, some you may not, it depends on what kind of repairs and DIY work you’re planning to do at home or in the shop.
However, the reason why we’re here: Allow me to introduce you to the all-system scan, available with the Innova 5610. While all of the brand’s scanners can plug into the OBD2 port of your vehicle and share flagged error or diagnostic codes, allowing you to better pinpoint what might be wrong, only a handful offer the comprehensive all-system scan. What is it? Why would you want it? What can it tell you? Buckle up and let’s take a closer look.
Also called the all module scan, it helps to break down why this comprehensive tool is a big deal and how it makes a difference. Each system or component of your vehicle is considered a separate module. The transmission control module (TCM), anti-lock braking system, restraint control module (RCM), blind-spot monitoring — if your vehicle has them — electronic automatic temperature controls (EATC) and many more. With a basic scanner, you have to check them individually, one-by-one. There is a system-level diagnostics reader that will tell you any error codes that have been flagged. However, then you have to manually go in and scan the related module or system for more information beyond what the code provides.

With the all module scan, you can scan the entirety of your vehicle’s electrical systems using one, comprehensive tool. It scans every system, one at a time and then shows you all of the related error codes or diagnostics concerns at the end. This is faster and saves time, but also makes it much easier to deal with potential vehicle problems.

Just to give you an idea of how easy it is to start the tool, and see the results, here are the steps:
Find the perfect scanner in 1 minute
The codes are available directly on the scanner, but if you pair and use the free mobile app, called Repair Solutions 2, they will also be available on your phone. That helps when the scanner is unplugged and you need to reference that information later, like doing a web search on the error codes and problems you’re experiencing. That way, you don’t have to go plug the tool back in the OBD2 port in your vehicle. Instead, you can open the app on your phone and reference the same information, easy as pie.

Of course, the mobile app is optional and you don’t need to use it if you don’t want to, but it certainly helps.
For the most part, the diagnostic codes provide you enough information to track down a fix or solve the problem. In some cases, they might be related to another error, like when systems fail in sequence or succession. That’s when it really helps to have an advanced scanner like the 5610. You can fall back on the live system data, looking at precisely the modules or systems that flagged an error to measure, analyze, and identify wonky performance data. Using the 5610 for something like O2 sensor analysis is a safe bet. Or, digging deeper into the brake systems, main control module or more complex systems like the variable charge motion actuators (VCMA).

But you can also take the code and Google it or search directly to find repair guides, troubleshooting tips from other users, or simply use the Repair Solutions 2 app to find vehicle specific fixes. It all hinges on the ability to reference the information or data collected at a later time, and since these tools save that information, and share it via mobile, you have a lot of options there, even if you don’t rely on Innova’s repair solutions directly.
When all is said and done though, that all module or all system scan makes a huge difference in the time it takes to find and identify problems. That alone might be worth the added cost when it’s time to do some troubleshooting on your vehicle(s).
Supported vehicles are listed in a compatibility chart, but the tool should work with most including GM, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, and more. If you don’t already own one, you should seriously consider picking up an OBD2 scanner like the Innova 5610 just to have it handy. You never know when you’ll need something to diagnose vehicle problems, clear error codes, reset systems, and check live data.
