Introduction

In modern vehicles, exterior lighting plays a critical role in ensuring visibility and safety during various driving conditions. The exterior lighting system in the Hyundai Veloster is designed to provide convenience and control, allowing drivers to adjust headlights, turn signals, and other lighting features directly from within the vehicle. Proper use of these lighting controls enhances road safety, improves visibility, and ensures compliance with traffic regulations. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to operate the exterior lighting of your 2015 Hyundai Veloster L4 1.6L from inside the vehicle.

How to use/set the feature

WARNING: Avoid activating the high beams when other vehicles are present, as this may obstruct the vision of oncoming drivers.

Basic lighting controls

The light switch includes positions for both the headlights and the parking lights.

Basic lighting controls

To operate the lights, rotate the knob at the end of the control lever to one of these positions:

1. OFF position

2. Parking light position

3. Headlight position

4. Auto light position (if equipped)

5. DRL ON position (if equipped)

Parking light position

When the light switch is set to the parking light position, the taillights, position lights, and license plate lights illuminate, and the taillight indicator activates.

Headlight position

When the light switch is in the headlight position, the headlights, taillights, license plate lights, and instrument panel lights all turn on.

Headlight position

NOTE: The ignition switch must be in the ON position to activate the headlights.

NOTE: To avoid draining the battery, make sure not to leave the headlights on for too long while the engine is off.

Auto light position (if equipped)

When the light switch is set to AUTO, the taillights and headlights automatically turn on or off based on the ambient light outside the vehicle.

Auto light position

NOTE:

  • Avoid placing any objects over the sensor (1) on the instrument panel to ensure optimal performance of the auto light system.
  • Avoid using window cleaner on the sensor, as it may leave residue that could disrupt its operation.
  • If your vehicle's front windshield has window tint or any metallic coating, the Auto light system may not function correctly.

High beam operation

Push the lever away from you to activate the high beam headlights, and pull it back to switch to the low beams. When the high beams are on, a dedicated indicator illuminates.

High beam operation

Pull the lever toward you to momentarily flash the headlights; releasing the lever automatically returns them to the low beam setting. Note that this flashing function can be used even when the headlight switch is off.

Turn signals and lane change signals

For the turn signals to operate, the ignition switch must be in the "on" position. Move the lever up or down to position (A) to activate them. The corresponding green arrow indicators on the instrument panel show which signal is in use.

The turn signals automatically turn off once the turn is completed. If the indicator continues flashing afterward, manually move the lever back to the OFF position.

To indicate a lane change, gently push and hold the turn signal lever in position (B). Once released, it automatically returns to the OFF position.

If a turn signal indicator remains lit without flashing or blinks unusually, it may indicate a burned-out bulb that needs to be replaced.

NOTE: If the turn signal flashes unusually fast or slow, it may indicate a burned-out bulb or a faulty electrical connection in the circuit.

Daytime running light (if equipped)

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) activate when the light switch is set to AUTO or DRL. They improve the visibility of your vehicle during the day, particularly in various driving conditions, and are especially useful at dawn and dusk.

The DRL system turns off when:

1. The headlights are on.

2. The engine stops.

3. The multifunction switch is set to DRL OFF or OFF.

4. The parking brake is engaged

Battery saver function

This feature is designed to stop the battery from draining. It automatically switches off the parking lights when the driver takes out the ignition key (or turns off the engine with a smart key) and opens the driver's door.

This feature ensures the parking lights automatically turn off when the driver parks on the roadside at night. To keep the lights on after removing the ignition key (or turning off the engine with a smart key), follow these steps:

Step 1. Open the driver's door.

Step 2. Use the light switch on the steering column to turn the parking lights OFF and then ON again.

Headlamp delay (if equipped)

When you switch the ignition to ACC or OFF while the headlights are on, they will stay on for approximately 5 minutes. However, if you open and close the driver's door, the headlights will turn off after 15 seconds.

To turn off the headlights, either press the lock button on the transmitter (or smart key) twice or switch the light control to the OFF or AUTO position. However, if it's dark outside and you set the light switch to AUTO, the headlights will remain on.

NOTE: If the driver exits the vehicle through any door other than the driver's door, the battery saver function will not activate, and the headlamp delay will not turn off automatically. This can lead to battery drain. Therefore, always ensure the lights are turned off before leaving the vehicle.

Headlamp welcome function (if equipped)

When the headlight switch is set to ON or AUTO and all doors are closed and locked, pressing the door unlock button on the transmitter (or smart key) turns on the headlights for approximately 15 seconds. If the switch is in AUTO, this only works at night. Pressing the unlock or lock button again will turn off the headlights immediately.
