How to Lift and Support the Hood Properly
Lifting the hood
1. Pull the release lever to release the hood latch. The hood will open slightly.
WARNING: Before opening the hood, ensure the engine is turned off, the vehicle is on a flat surface, the shift lever is in the P (Park) position for Automatic transaxle or in 1st (First) gear or R (Reverse) for manual transaxle, and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Move to the front of the vehicle, lift the hood slightly, pull the secondary latch (1) located at the center of the hood, and then raise the hood (2).
3. Lift the hood. Once it is raised halfway, it will fully lift on its own.
Lowering the hood
1. Prior to closing the hood, make sure to check the following:
- Ensure that all filler caps in the engine compartment are properly installed.
- Remove gloves, rags, or other flammable materials from the engine compartment as necessary.
2. Lower the hood until it’s halfway down, then push it to ensure it’s securely locked.
- Before closing the hood, make sure all obstructions are cleared from the hood opening. Closing the hood with an obstruction present can cause property damage or serious personal injury.
- Do not leave gloves, rags, or any other flammable materials in the engine compartment, as they may cause a fire due to heat.
- Always verify that the hood is securely latched before driving. If it is not latched, the hood may open while driving, blocking visibility and potentially causing an accident.
- Do not drive the vehicle with the hood raised, as it will obstruct your vision and could cause the hood to fall or become damaged.
