Introduction
In modern vehicles, the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system offers added convenience and security, especially for drivers on the go. The RKE system in your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox lets you lock, unlock, and start your vehicle without removing the key fob from your pocket or bag. This eliminates the need for manual key insertion and enhances ease of access, making it perfect for those moments when your hands are full. Beyond convenience, it also provides added security by ensuring that only authorized users can access and start the vehicle. This guide will walk you through how to use the RKE system effectively in your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox L4 2.4L.
System Guidelines
RKE System Basic Operation
The RKE transmitter operates up to 60 m (197 ft) from the vehicle. It offers the following features:

- Lock:
Press the lock button to lock all doors. The turn signal indicators may flash, and the horn may sound on a second press to confirm the vehicle is locked. If any passenger door is open, all doors will lock. Pressing this button also arms the theft-deterrent system. - Unlock:
Press once to unlock the driver’s door or all doors, depending on the settings. The turn signal indicators may flash to confirm unlocking. For vehicles with a manual liftgate, press the unlock button twice within five seconds to unlock the liftgate. This action also disarms the theft-deterrent system. - Remote Liftgate Release (if equipped)
Press and hold this button to activate the power liftgate. Press again to stop the liftgate’s motion. - Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm
Press and release once to activate the vehicle locator. The exterior lamps flash, and the horn chirps three times. Press and hold for at least three seconds to trigger the panic alarm, causing the horn to sound and the turn signals to flash. Press the button again or turn the ignition to ON/RUN to deactivate the alarm. - Remote Vehicle Start (if equipped)
To remotely start the engine, press and release the lock button, then immediately press and hold the remote start button for at least four seconds.
Note: The key fob buttons are disabled when a key is in the ignition.
Programming Transmitters to the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed to the vehicle will function. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be obtained and programmed through an authorized dealer. During programming, all remaining transmitters must also be reprogrammed, rendering any lost transmitters inoperable.
Programming with a Recognized Transmitter
To add a new transmitter:
1. Insert an existing, programmed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/RUN position.
2. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF and remove it.
3. Insert the new key to be programmed and turn it to the ON/RUN position within five seconds. The security light will turn off, indicating successful programming.
4. Repeat the steps for additional keys as needed.
Note: For assistance with lost or damaged keys, visit an authorized dealer.
Programming without a Recognized Transmitter
If no recognized keys are available, use the following procedure to program a new key. This process takes approximately 30 minutes:
1. Insert the new key into the ignition.
2. Turn the key to the ON/RUN position. The security light will illuminate.
3. Wait 10 minutes until the security light turns off.
4. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF.
5. Repeat steps 2–4 two more times. After the third cycle, turn the key to ON/RUN. The new key is now programmed, and all previously known keys are disabled.
To program additional keys, follow the steps under “Programming with a Recognized Transmitter.”
