These systems offer multiple settings and functionalities to clear rain, snow, and debris from the windshield and rear window, ensuring a clear view of the road. Proper use of the wipers contributes to a more comfortable and secure driving experience, especially during heavy rain or snowfall.
In addition to maintaining visibility, the wipers can be adjusted to suit various weather conditions, providing you with flexibility and control. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to operate the front and rear wipers on your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, making it easier to navigate safely in adverse weather conditions.
System Guidelines
Windshield Wiper/Washer
The windshield wiper/washer lever is located on the right side of the steering column. To operate the wipers, the ignition must be in the ACC/ACCESSORY, ON/RUN, or START position. Adjust the lever to the desired position to select the wiper speed or washer function.
Windshield Wiper Controls:
HI (High Speed): For fast wiping, move the lever to HI.
LO (Low Speed): Use LO for slow, continuous wipes.
INT (Intermittent Wipes): Move the lever to INT and adjust the frequency using the INT band:
- Rotate the band upward for more frequent wipes.
- Rotate downward for less frequent wipes.
OFF: Turns off the wipers.
1X (Mist): Briefly move the lever downward for a single wipe. Hold it down for multiple wipes.
FRONT (Windshield Washer): Pull the lever toward you to spray washer fluid on the windshield and activate the wipers. The wipers will continue until the lever is released or the maximum wash time is reached. Additional wipes may occur after the lever is released, depending on how long the washer was activated.
Note:
- Clear ice and snow from the wipers and blades before operation. If the wipers are frozen to the windshield, carefully loosen or thaw them to avoid motor damage.
- Replace damaged wiper blades promptly for optimal performance.
WARNING: Avoid using the washer system in freezing temperatures until the windshield is sufficiently warmed. Washer fluid may freeze on the glass, impairing visibility.

Wiper Parking:
If the ignition is turned to LOCK/OFF while the wipers are set to LO, HI, or INT, the wipers will stop immediately.
If the lever is moved to OFF before the driver’s door is opened or within 10 minutes of turning off the ignition, the wipers will resume and park at the base of the windshield.
During washer operation, the wipers will complete their cycle and return to the base before stopping when the ignition is turned off.

Rear Window Wiper/ Washer
The controls for the rear wiper are located at the end of the windshield wiper lever.
ON: Press the upper portion of the control button for continuous rear wipes.
OFF: Return the button to the middle position to turn off the rear wiper.
INT (Intermittent Rear Wipes): Press the lower portion of the button for intermittent rear wipes.
REAR (Rear Washer): Push the lever forward to spray washer fluid on the rear window. Release the lever to stop spraying.

Rear Wiper Arm Assembly Protection:
- Automatic Car Wash: Set the rear wiper control to OFF before entering an automatic car wash to prevent damage to the wiper assembly.
- Low-Speed Protection: If the transmission is in N (Neutral) and the vehicle speed is very slow, the rear wiper will stop at the base of the window. Normal operation resumes when the vehicle exits neutral or increases speed.
