In modern vehicles, the “Cruise Control” feature is a common convenience designed to enhance long-distance driving. The “Cruise Control” system in your Chevrolet Equinox offers both comfort and ease, especially during highway travel. It lets you maintain a constant speed without the need to keep yourfoot on the accelerator, reducing fatigue on extended trips. Additionally, it promotes fuel efficiency by eliminating unnecessary speed variations. This feature is particularly valuable for vehicles such as the Equinox, where maintaining a steady speed is essential for optimizing performance and ensuring a smooth driving experience. This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to use the Cruise Control feature in your 2015 Chevrolet Equinox L4 2.4L.
Procedure
Warning
Using cruise control can be hazardous in situations where maintaining a constant speed is unsafe. Avoid using cruise control on curvy roads or in dense traffic. Additionally, cruise control poses risks on slippery surfaces. Rapid changes in tire traction can lead to significant wheel slip, potentially causing a loss of control.
DO NOT engage cruise control on slippery roads.
How to set/use the feature

Activating Cruise Control
- Press the CRUISE button to activate the cruise control system.
- Accelerate to your desired speed.
- Push the thumbwheel towards "SET/−" and release it. The set speed will show momentarily on the Driver Information Center (DIC) screen.
- Take your foot off the accelerator.
Note: If the CRUISE button is left on when not in use, accidentally pressing SET/− or RES/+ may activate cruise control unintentionally. To avoid this, ensure the CRUISE button is turned off when cruise control is not needed.

Reactivating a Previously Set Speed
When the cruise control is adjusted to a preferred speed, applying the brakes or pressing the "n" button will deactivate it, but the preset speed remains stored in memory. To resume the stored speed after the vehicle reaches approximately 40 km/h (25 mph) or higher, simply push the thumbwheel upward toward RES/+ momentarily. The vehicle will then accelerate to the previously set speed.
Increasing Speed with Cruise Control
To increase speed while cruise control is active:
- Hold the thumbwheel up toward RES/+ to accelerate, then release when the desired speed is reached.
- For small speed adjustments, briefly push the thumbwheel up. Each press increases speed by approximately 1.6 km/h (1 mph).
Reducing Speed with Cruise Control
To reduce speed while cruise control is active:
- Hold the thumbwheel down toward SET/− until the desired slower speed is reached, then release it.
- For minor speed reductions, briefly press the thumbwheel down. Each press decreases speed by approximately 1.6 km/h (1 mph).
Overtaking with Cruise Control Enabled
To pass another vehicle while cruise control is active:
- Press the accelerator to temporarily increase the vehicle's speed. When you release the pedal, the vehicle returns to the preset cruise speed.
- If you briefly push the thumbwheel toward SET/− while accelerating or soon after releasing the pedal, the cruise control will update to match the current speed.
Operating Cruise Control on Hills
The effectiveness of cruise control on hills depends on factors such as vehicle speed, weight, and hill steepness.
- On steep inclines, using the accelerator pedal may be necessary to sustain speed.
- On descents, braking or shifting to a lower gear may be required to control the speed.
Note: Applying the brakes will automatically deactivate cruise control.
Disabling Cruise Control
Cruise control can be turned off in four ways:
- Gently press the brake pedal.
- Press the CANCEL button.
- Shift the transmission to Neutral (N).
- Press the CRUISE button to turn off cruise control completely.
Clearing the Set Speed
The stored cruise control speed is cleared if the CRUISE button is pressed or when the vehicle is turned off.
