How to Use the Smart Key

With a smart key, you can lock or unlock the doors (and tailgate) as well as start the engine without needing to insert the key.

Locking

By using the button on the door handle:

  • Make sure all doors, the hood, and the tailgate are closed.
  • Press the button on the exterior door handle.
  • The hazard warning lights flash and the chime sounds once.
  • Ensure the doors are locked by checking the door lock button inside the vehicle or by pulling the exterior door handle.
Locking

Note:

  • The button only works when the smart key is within 28–40 inches (0.7–1 meter) of the exterior door handle.
  • Pressing the button on the exterior door handle will not lock the doors, and the chime will sound for 3 seconds if:

- The smart key is inside the vehicle.

- The engine start/stop button is in the ACC or ON position.

- Any door besides the tailgate is open.

By using the button on the smart key:

  • Ensure all doors, the hood, and the tailgate are closed.
  • Press the lock button (1).
  • The hazard warning lights flash, and the chime sounds once.
  • Verify the doors are locked by checking the door lock button inside or by pulling the exterior door handle.

Unlocking

Using the door handle:

  • Press the button on the driver's exterior door handle.
  • The driver’s door unlocks, the hazard warning lights flash, and the chime sounds twice.
  • Press the button again within 4 seconds.
  • All doors unlock, and the hazard warning lights flash and the chime sounds twice.

If you press the button on the front passenger’s exterior door handle while carrying the smart key (if equipped), all doors will unlock.

Note:

  • The button functions only when the smart key is within 28–40 inches (0.7–1 meter) of the exterior door handle.
  • When the smart key is detected within 28–40 inches (0.7–1 meter) of the front exterior door handle, others can also open the doors.
  • After unlocking the driver's door or all doors, the door(s) automatically lock unless one is opened.

Using the button on the smart key:

  • Press the unlock button (2) on the smart key.
  • The driver's door unlocks, the hazard warning lights flash, and the chime sounds twice.
  • Press the unlock button (2) again within 4 seconds.
  • All doors unlock, the hazard warning lights flash, and the chime sounds twice.

Note: Once the button is pressed, the doors will automatically lock unless a door is opened.

Tailgate Opening & Closing

Using the tailgate handle button:

  • Keep the smart key with you.
  • Press the button on the tailgate handle.
  • When all doors are locked, the hazard warning lights flash twice. After the tailgate is opened and then closed, it automatically locks.

Note: The button only functions when the smart key is within 28–40 inches (0.7–1 meter) of the tailgate handle.

Using the button on the smart key:

  • Press the tailgate unlock button (3) for longer than one second.
  • When all doors are locked, the hazard warning lights flash twice.

Panic Alarm

  • Press the panic button (4) for longer than than 1.5 seconds.
  • The horn sounds and the hazard warning lights flash for approximately 30 seconds.

Note: To stop the horn and lights, press any button on the smart key.

Engine Keyless Start/Stop

The engine start/stop button lets you start and stop the engine with a simple press of a button, eliminating the need for a traditional key and ignition switch. You simply need to have the smart key within a certain range of the vehicle to operate it, enhancing convenience and security.

CAUTIONS:

  • If you lose your smart key, you will not be able to start the engine. You should promptly take the vehicle and the remaining key to your authorized HYUNDAI dealer (towing the vehicle if needed) to prevent potential theft.
  • The smart key may not function properly if it is near a radio transmitter, such as those at a radio station or an airport, which can interfere with its normal operation.
  • The smart key may not function if it is near a mobile two-way radio system or a cellular phone.
  • The smart key may not function if another vehicle's smart key is being used near your vehicle.
  • If the smart key is not working properly, use the mechanical key to open and close the door, then contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Keep the smart key away from water or any liquids. If the keyless entry system stops working due to exposure to water or other liquids, it will not be covered under your vehicle's manufacturer warranty.
